  19. 2. ``/etc/searx/settings.yml``
  20. If these files don't exist (or are empty or can't be read), searx uses the

  79. Referrer-Policy : no-referrer
  80. ``port`` & ``bind_address``: ``$SEARX_PORT`` & ``$SEARX_BIND_ADDRESS``
  81. Port number and *bind address* of the searx web application if you run it
  82. directly using ``python searx/webapp.py``. Doesn't apply to searx running on
  83. Apache or Nginx.
  84. ``secret_key`` : ``$SEARX_SECRET``
  85. Used for cryptography purpose.
  86. ``base_url`` : :ref:`buildenv SEARX_URL <make buildenv>`
  87. The base URL where searx is deployed. Used to create correct inbound links.
  88. If you change the value, don't forget to rebuild instance's environment
  89. (:ref:`utils/brand.env <make buildenv>`)
  90. ``image_proxy`` :
  91. Allow your instance of searx of being able to proxy images. Uses memory space.
  92. ``default_locale`` :
  93. Searx interface language. If blank, the locale is detected by using the
  94. browser language. If it doesn't work, or you are deploying a language
  95. specific instance of searx, a locale can be defined using an ISO language
  96. code, like ``fr``, ``en``, ``de``.
  97. ``default_theme`` :
  98. Name of the theme you want to use by default on your searx instance.
  99. .. _HTTP headers: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTTP/Headers
  100. ``default_http_headers``:
  101. Set additional HTTP headers, see `#755 <https://github.com/searx/searx/issues/715>`__
  102. ``outgoing:``
  103. -------------
  104. Communication with search engines.
  105. .. code:: yaml
  106. outgoing:
  107. request_timeout: 2.0 # default timeout in seconds, can be override by engine
  108. max_request_timeout: 10.0 # the maximum timeout in seconds
  109. useragent_suffix: "" # informations like an email address to the administrator
  110. pool_connections: 100 # Maximum number of allowable connections, or null
  111. # for no limits. The default is 100.
  112. pool_maxsize: 10 # Number of allowable keep-alive connections, or null
  113. # to always allow. The default is 10.
  114. enable_http2: true # See https://www.python-httpx.org/http2/
  115. # uncomment below section if you want to use a proxy
  116. # proxies:
  117. # all://:
  118. # - http://proxy1:8080
  119. # - http://proxy2:8080
  120. # uncomment below section only if you have more than one network interface
  121. # which can be the source of outgoing search requests
  122. # source_ips:
  123. # - 1.1.1.1
  124. # - 1.1.1.2
  125. # - fe80::/126
  126. ``request_timeout`` :
  127. Global timeout of the requests made to others engines in seconds. A bigger
  128. timeout will allow to wait for answers from slow engines, but in consequence
  129. will slow searx reactivity (the result page may take the time specified in the
  130. timeout to load). Can be override by :ref:`settings engine`
  131. ``useragent_suffix`` :
  132. Suffix to the user-agent searx uses to send requests to others engines. If an
  133. engine wish to block you, a contact info here may be useful to avoid that.
  134. ``keepalive_expiry``:
  135. Number of seconds to keep a connection in the pool. By default 5.0 seconds.
  136. .. _httpx proxies: https://www.python-httpx.org/advanced/#http-proxying
  137. ``proxies`` :
  138. Define one or more proxies you wish to use, see `httpx proxies`_.
  139. If there are more than one proxy for one protocol (http, https),
  140. requests to the engines are distributed in a round-robin fashion.
  141. ``source_ips`` :
  142. If you use multiple network interfaces, define from which IP the requests must
  143. be made. Example:
  144. * ``0.0.0.0`` any local IPv4 address.
  145. * ``::`` any local IPv6 address.
  146. * ``192.168.0.1``
  147. * ``[ 192.168.0.1, 192.168.0.2 ]`` these two specific IP addresses
  148. * ``fe80::60a2:1691:e5a2:ee1f``
  149. * ``fe80::60a2:1691:e5a2:ee1f/126`` all IP addresses in this network.
  150. * ``[ 192.168.0.1, fe80::/126 ]``
  151. ``retries`` :
  152. Number of retry in case of an HTTP error. On each retry, searx uses an
  153. different proxy and source ip.
  154. ``retry_on_http_error`` :
  155. Retry request on some HTTP status code.
  156. Example:
  157. * ``true`` : on HTTP status code between 400 and 599.
  158. * ``403`` : on HTTP status code 403.
  159. * ``[403, 429]``: on HTTP status code 403 and 429.
  160. ``enable_http2`` :
  161. Enable by default. Set to ``false`` to disable HTTP/2.
  162. ``max_redirects`` :
  163. 30 by default. Maximum redirect before it is an error.
  164. ``locales:``
  165. ------------
  166. .. code:: yaml
  167. locales:
  168. en: English
  169. de: Deutsch
  170. he: Hebrew
  171. hu: Magyar
  172. fr: Français
  173. es: Español
  174. it: Italiano
  175. nl: Nederlands
  176. ja: 日本語 (Japanese)
  177. tr: Türkçe
  178. ru: Russian
  179. ro: Romanian
  180. ``locales`` :
  181. Locales codes and their names. Available translations of searx interface.

  226. ``name`` :
  227. Name that will be used across searx to define this engine. In settings, on
  228. the result page...
  229. ``engine`` :
  230. Name of the python file used to handle requests and responses to and from this
  231. search engine.
  232. ``shortcut`` :
  233. Code used to execute bang requests (in this case using ``!bi`` or ``?bi``)
  234. ``base_url`` : optional
  235. Part of the URL that should be stable across every request. Can be useful to
  236. use multiple sites using only one engine, or updating the site URL without
  237. touching at the code.
  238. ``categories`` : optional
  239. Define in which categories this engine will be active. Most of the time, it is
  240. defined in the code of the engine, but in a few cases it is useful, like when
  241. describing multiple search engine using the same code.
  242. ``timeout`` : optional
  243. Timeout of the search with the current search engine. **Be careful, it will
  244. modify the global timeout of searx.**
  245. ``api_key`` : optional
  246. In a few cases, using an API needs the use of a secret key. How to obtain them
  247. is described in the file.
  248. ``disabled`` : optional
  249. To disable by default the engine, but not deleting it. It will allow the user
  250. to manually activate it in the settings.
  251. ``language`` : optional
  252. If you want to use another language for a specific engine, you can define it
  253. by using the full ISO code of language and country, like ``fr_FR``, ``en_US``,
  254. ``de_DE``.
  255. ``tokens`` : optional
  256. A list of secret tokens to make this engine *private*, more details see
  257. :ref:`private engines`.
  258. ``weigth`` : default ``1``
  259. Weighting of the results of this engine.
  260. ``display_error_messages`` : default ``true``
  261. When an engine returns an error, the message is displayed on the user interface.
  262. ``network``: optional
  263. Use the network configuration from another engine.
  264. In addition, there are two default networks:
  265. * ``ipv4`` set ``local_addresses`` to ``0.0.0.0`` (use only IPv4 local addresses)
  266. * ``ipv6`` set ``local_addresses`` to ``::`` (use only IPv6 local addresses)
  267. .. note::
  268. A few more options are possible, but they are pretty specific to some
  269. engines, and so won't be described here.
  270. .. _settings use_default_settings:
  271. use_default_settings
  272. ====================
  273. .. sidebar:: ``use_default_settings: true``
  274. - :ref:`settings location`
  275. - :ref:`use_default_settings.yml`
  276. - :origin:`/etc/searx/settings.yml <utils/templates/etc/searx/use_default_settings.yml>`
  277. The user defined ``settings.yml`` is loaded from the :ref:`settings location`
  278. and can relied on the default configuration :origin:`searx/settings.yml` using:
  279. ``use_default_settings: true``
  280. ``server:``
  281. In the following example, the actual settings are the default settings defined
  282. in :origin:`searx/settings.yml` with the exception of the ``secret_key`` and
  283. the ``bind_address``:
  284. .. code-block:: yaml
  285. use_default_settings: true
  286. server:
  287. secret_key: "ultrasecretkey" # change this!
  288. bind_address: "0.0.0.0"
  289. ``engines:``
  290. With ``use_default_settings: true``, each settings can be override in a
  291. similar way, the ``engines`` section is merged according to the engine
  292. ``name``. In this example, searx will load all the engine and the arch linux
  293. wiki engine has a :ref:`token <private engines>`:
  294. .. code-block:: yaml
  295. use_default_settings: true
  296. server:
  297. secret_key: "ultrasecretkey" # change this!
  298. engines:
  299. - name: arch linux wiki
  300. tokens: ['$ecretValue']
  301. ``engines:`` / ``remove:``
  302. It is possible to remove some engines from the default settings. The following
  303. example is similar to the above one, but searx doesn't load the the google
  304. engine:
  305. .. code-block:: yaml
  306. use_default_settings:
  307. engines:
  308. remove:
  309. - google
  310. server:
  311. secret_key: "ultrasecretkey" # change this!
  312. engines:
  313. - name: arch linux wiki
  314. tokens: ['$ecretValue']
  315. ``engines:`` / ``keep_only:``
  316. As an alternative, it is possible to specify the engines to keep. In the
  317. following example, searx has only two engines:
  318. .. code-block:: yaml
  319. use_default_settings:
  320. engines:
  321. keep_only:
  322. - google
  323. - duckduckgo
  324. server:
  325. secret_key: "ultrasecretkey" # change this!
  326. engines:
  327. - name: google
  328. tokens: ['$ecretValue']
  329. - name: duckduckgo
  330. tokens: ['$ecretValue']
