  231. .. _Redis.from_url(url): https://redis-py.readthedocs.io/en/stable/connections.html#redis.client.Redis.from_url
  232. A redis DB can be connected by an URL, in :py:obj:`searx.redisdb` you
  233. will find a description to test your redis connection in SerXNG. When using
  234. sockets, don't forget to check the access rights on the socket::
  235. ls -la /usr/local/searxng-redis/run/redis.sock
  236. srwxrwx--- 1 searxng-redis searxng-redis ... /usr/local/searxng-redis/run/redis.sock
  237. In this example read/write access is given to the *searxng-redis* group. To get
  238. access rights to redis instance (the socket), your SearXNG (or even your
  239. developer) account needs to be added to the *searxng-redis* group.
  240. ``url``
  241. URL to connect redis database, see `Redis.from_url(url)`_ & :ref:`redis db`::
  242. redis://[[username]:[password]]@localhost:6379/0
  243. rediss://[[username]:[password]]@localhost:6379/0
  244. unix://[[username]:[password]]@/path/to/socket.sock?db=0
  245. .. admonition:: Tip for developers
  246. To set up a local redis instance, first set the socket path of the Redis DB
  247. in your YAML setting:
  248. .. code:: yaml
  249. redis:
  250. url: unix:///usr/local/searxng-redis/run/redis.sock?db=0
  251. Then use the following commands to install the redis instance ::
  252. $ ./manage redis.build
  253. $ sudo -H ./manage redis.install
  254. $ sudo -H ./manage redis.addgrp "${USER}"
  255. # don't forget to logout & login to get member of group

  288. #
  289. # extra_proxy_timeout: 10.0
  290. #
  291. ``request_timeout`` :
  292. Global timeout of the requests made to others engines in seconds. A bigger
  293. timeout will allow to wait for answers from slow engines, but in consequence
  294. will slow SearXNG reactivity (the result page may take the time specified in the
  295. timeout to load). Can be override by :ref:`settings engine`
  296. ``useragent_suffix`` :
  297. Suffix to the user-agent SearXNG uses to send requests to others engines. If an
  298. engine wish to block you, a contact info here may be useful to avoid that.
  299. ``keepalive_expiry`` :
  300. Number of seconds to keep a connection in the pool. By default 5.0 seconds.
  301. .. _httpx proxies: https://www.python-httpx.org/advanced/#http-proxying
  302. ``proxies`` :
  303. Define one or more proxies you wish to use, see `httpx proxies`_.
  304. If there are more than one proxy for one protocol (http, https),
  305. requests to the engines are distributed in a round-robin fashion.
  306. ``source_ips`` :
  307. If you use multiple network interfaces, define from which IP the requests must
  308. be made. Example:
  309. * ``0.0.0.0`` any local IPv4 address.
  310. * ``::`` any local IPv6 address.
  311. * ``192.168.0.1``
  312. * ``[ 192.168.0.1, 192.168.0.2 ]`` these two specific IP addresses
  313. * ``fe80::60a2:1691:e5a2:ee1f``
  314. * ``fe80::60a2:1691:e5a2:ee1f/126`` all IP addresses in this network.
  315. * ``[ 192.168.0.1, fe80::/126 ]``
  316. ``retries`` :
  317. Number of retry in case of an HTTP error. On each retry, SearXNG uses an
  318. different proxy and source ip.
  319. ``retry_on_http_error`` :
  320. Retry request on some HTTP status code.
  321. Example:
  322. * ``true`` : on HTTP status code between 400 and 599.
  323. * ``403`` : on HTTP status code 403.
  324. * ``[403, 429]``: on HTTP status code 403 and 429.
  325. ``enable_http2`` :
  326. Enable by default. Set to ``false`` to disable HTTP/2.

  331. see `httpx verification defaults`_.
  332. In addition to ``verify``, SearXNG supports the ``$SSL_CERT_FILE`` (for a file) and
  333. ``$SSL_CERT_DIR`` (for a directory) OpenSSL variables.
  334. see `httpx ssl configuration`_.
  335. ``max_redirects`` :
  336. 30 by default. Maximum redirect before it is an error.

  357. user disables all engines in a category).
  358. On the preferences page (``/preferences``) -- under *engines* -- there is an
  359. additional tab, called *other*. In this tab are all engines listed that are not
  360. in one of the UI tabs (not included in ``categories_as_tabs``).

  406. ``name`` :
  407. Name that will be used across SearXNG to define this engine. In settings, on
  408. the result page...
  409. ``engine`` :
  410. Name of the python file used to handle requests and responses to and from this
  411. search engine.
  412. ``shortcut`` :
  413. Code used to execute bang requests (in this case using ``!bi``)
  414. ``base_url`` : optional
  415. Part of the URL that should be stable across every request. Can be useful to
  416. use multiple sites using only one engine, or updating the site URL without
  417. touching at the code.
  418. ``send_accept_language_header`` :
  419. Several engines that support languages (or regions) deal with the HTTP header
  420. ``Accept-Language`` to build a response that fits to the locale. When this
  421. option is activated, the language (locale) that is selected by the user is used
  422. to build and send a ``Accept-Language`` header in the request to the origin
  423. search engine.
  424. .. _engine categories:
  425. ``categories`` : optional
  426. Specifies to which categories the engine should be added. Engines can be
  427. assigned to multiple categories.
  428. Categories can be shown as tabs (:ref:`settings categories_as_tabs`) in the
  429. UI. A search in a tab (in the UI) will query all engines that are active in
  430. this tab. In the preferences page (``/preferences``) -- under *engines* --
  431. users can select what engine should be active when querying in this tab.
  432. Alternatively, :ref:`\!bang <search-syntax>` can be used to search all engines
  433. in a category, regardless of whether they are active or not, or whether they
  434. are in a tab of the UI or not. For example, ``!dictionaries`` can be used to
  435. query all search engines in that category (group).
  436. ``timeout`` : optional
  437. Timeout of the search with the current search engine. **Be careful, it will
  438. modify the global timeout of SearXNG.**
  439. ``api_key`` : optional
  440. In a few cases, using an API needs the use of a secret key. How to obtain them
  441. is described in the file.
  442. ``disabled`` : optional
  443. To disable by default the engine, but not deleting it. It will allow the user
  444. to manually activate it in the settings.
  445. ``inactive``: optional
  446. Remove the engine from the settings (*disabled & removed*).
  447. ``language`` : optional
  448. If you want to use another language for a specific engine, you can define it
  449. by using the ISO code of language (and region), like ``fr``, ``en-US``,
  450. ``de-DE``.
  451. ``tokens`` : optional
  452. A list of secret tokens to make this engine *private*, more details see
  453. :ref:`private engines`.
  454. ``weigth`` : default ``1``
  455. Weighting of the results of this engine.
  456. ``display_error_messages`` : default ``true``
  457. When an engine returns an error, the message is displayed on the user interface.
  458. ``network`` : optional
  459. Use the network configuration from another engine.
  460. In addition, there are two default networks:
  461. - ``ipv4`` set ``local_addresses`` to ``0.0.0.0`` (use only IPv4 local addresses)
  462. - ``ipv6`` set ``local_addresses`` to ``::`` (use only IPv6 local addresses)
  463. .. note::
  464. A few more options are possible, but they are pretty specific to some
  465. engines, and so won't be described here.
  466. Example: Multilingual Search
  467. ----------------------------
  468. SearXNG does not support true multilingual search. You have to use the language
  469. prefix in your search query when searching in a different language.
  470. But there is a workaround: By adding a new search engine with a different
  471. language, SearXNG will search in your default and other language.
  472. Example configuration in settings.yml for a German and English speaker:
  473. .. code-block:: yaml
  474. search:
  475. default_lang : "de"
  476. ...
  477. engines:
  478. - name : google english
  479. engine : google
  480. language : en
  481. ...
  482. When searching, the default google engine will return German results and
  483. "google english" will return English results.
  484. .. _settings use_default_settings:
  485. use_default_settings
  486. ====================
  487. .. sidebar:: ``use_default_settings: true``
  488. - :ref:`settings location`
  489. - :ref:`use_default_settings.yml`
  490. - :origin:`/etc/searxng/settings.yml <utils/templates/etc/searxng/settings.yml>`
  491. The user defined ``settings.yml`` is loaded from the :ref:`settings location`
  492. and can relied on the default configuration :origin:`searx/settings.yml` using:
  493. ``use_default_settings: true``
  494. ``server:``
  495. In the following example, the actual settings are the default settings defined
  496. in :origin:`searx/settings.yml` with the exception of the ``secret_key`` and
  497. the ``bind_address``:
  498. .. code-block:: yaml
  499. use_default_settings: true
  500. server:
  501. secret_key: "ultrasecretkey" # change this!
  502. bind_address: "0.0.0.0"
  503. ``engines:``
  504. With ``use_default_settings: true``, each settings can be override in a
  505. similar way, the ``engines`` section is merged according to the engine
  506. ``name``. In this example, SearXNG will load all the default engines, will
  507. enable the ``bing`` engine and define a :ref:`token <private engines>` for
  508. the arch linux engine:
  509. .. code-block:: yaml
  510. use_default_settings: true
  511. server:
  512. secret_key: "ultrasecretkey" # change this!
  513. engines:
  514. - name: arch linux wiki
  515. tokens: ['$ecretValue']
  516. - name: bing
  517. disabled: false
  518. ``engines:`` / ``remove:``
  519. It is possible to remove some engines from the default settings. The following
  520. example is similar to the above one, but SearXNG doesn't load the the google
  521. engine:
  522. .. code-block:: yaml
  523. use_default_settings:
  524. engines:
  525. remove:
  526. - google
  527. server:
  528. secret_key: "ultrasecretkey" # change this!
  529. engines:
  530. - name: arch linux wiki
  531. tokens: ['$ecretValue']
  532. ``engines:`` / ``keep_only:``
  533. As an alternative, it is possible to specify the engines to keep. In the
  534. following example, SearXNG has only two engines:
  535. .. code-block:: yaml
  536. use_default_settings:
  537. engines:
  538. keep_only:
  539. - google
  540. - duckduckgo
  541. server:
  542. secret_key: "ultrasecretkey" # change this!
  543. engines:
  544. - name: google
  545. tokens: ['$ecretValue']
  546. - name: duckduckgo
  547. tokens: ['$ecretValue']
