  170. center_alignment: false
  171. default_theme: simple
  172. theme_args:
  173. simple_style: auto
  174. ``default_locale`` :
  175. SearXNG interface language. If blank, the locale is detected by using the
  176. browser language. If it doesn't work, or you are deploying a language
  177. specific instance of searx, a locale can be defined using an ISO language
  178. code, like ``fr``, ``en``, ``de``.
  179. ``query_in_title`` :
  180. When true, the result page's titles contains the query it decreases the

  196. ----------
  197. .. _Redis.from_url(url): https://redis-py.readthedocs.io/en/stable/connections.html#redis.client.Redis.from_url
  198. A redis DB can be connected by an URL, in :py:obj:`searx.shared.redisdb` you
  199. will find a description to test your redis connection in SerXNG. When using
  200. sockets, don't forget to check the access rights on the socket::
  201. ls -la /usr/local/searxng-redis/run/redis.sock
  202. srwxrwx--- 1 searxng-redis searxng-redis ... /usr/local/searxng-redis/run/redis.sock
  203. In this example read/write access is given to the *searxng-redis* group. To get
  204. access rights to redis instance (the socket), your SearXNG (or even your
  205. developer) account needs to be added to the *searxng-redis* group.
  206. ``url``
  207. URL to connect redis database, see `Redis.from_url(url)`_ & :ref:`redis db`::
  208. redis://[[username]:[password]]@localhost:6379/0
  209. rediss://[[username]:[password]]@localhost:6379/0
  210. unix://[[username]:[password]]@/path/to/socket.sock?db=0
  211. .. admonition:: Tip for developers
  212. To set up a local redis instance using sockets simply use::
  213. $ ./manage redis.build
  214. $ sudo -H ./manage redis.install
  215. $ sudo -H ./manage redis.addgrp "${USER}"
  216. # don't forget to logout & login to get member of group
  217. The YAML setting for such a redis instance is:
  218. .. code:: yaml
  219. redis:
  220. url: unix:///usr/local/searxng-redis/run/redis.sock?db=0
  221. .. _settings outgoing:

  223. -------------
  224. Communication with search engines.
  225. .. code:: yaml

  227. request_timeout: 2.0 # default timeout in seconds, can be override by engine
  228. max_request_timeout: 10.0 # the maximum timeout in seconds
  229. useragent_suffix: "" # informations like an email address to the administrator
  230. pool_connections: 100 # Maximum number of allowable connections, or null
  231. # for no limits. The default is 100.
  232. pool_maxsize: 10 # Number of allowable keep-alive connections, or null
  233. # to always allow. The default is 10.

  241. # which can be the source of outgoing search requests
  242. # source_ips:
  243. # - 1.1.1.1
  244. # - 1.1.1.2
  245. # - fe80::/126
  246. ``request_timeout`` :
  247. Global timeout of the requests made to others engines in seconds. A bigger
  248. timeout will allow to wait for answers from slow engines, but in consequence
  249. will slow SearXNG reactivity (the result page may take the time specified in the
  250. timeout to load). Can be override by :ref:`settings engine`
  251. ``useragent_suffix`` :
  252. Suffix to the user-agent SearXNG uses to send requests to others engines. If an
  253. engine wish to block you, a contact info here may be useful to avoid that.
  254. ``keepalive_expiry`` :
  255. Number of seconds to keep a connection in the pool. By default 5.0 seconds.
  256. .. _httpx proxies: https://www.python-httpx.org/advanced/#http-proxying
  257. ``proxies`` :
  258. Define one or more proxies you wish to use, see `httpx proxies`_.
  259. If there are more than one proxy for one protocol (http, https),
  260. requests to the engines are distributed in a round-robin fashion.
  261. ``source_ips`` :
  262. If you use multiple network interfaces, define from which IP the requests must
  263. be made. Example:
  264. * ``0.0.0.0`` any local IPv4 address.
  265. * ``::`` any local IPv6 address.
  266. * ``192.168.0.1``
  267. * ``[ 192.168.0.1, 192.168.0.2 ]`` these two specific IP addresses
  268. * ``fe80::60a2:1691:e5a2:ee1f``
  269. * ``fe80::60a2:1691:e5a2:ee1f/126`` all IP addresses in this network.
  270. * ``[ 192.168.0.1, fe80::/126 ]``
  271. ``retries`` :
  272. Number of retry in case of an HTTP error. On each retry, SearXNG uses an
  273. different proxy and source ip.
  274. ``retry_on_http_error`` :
  275. Retry request on some HTTP status code.
  276. Example:
  277. * ``true`` : on HTTP status code between 400 and 599.
  278. * ``403`` : on HTTP status code 403.
  279. * ``[403, 429]``: on HTTP status code 403 and 429.
  280. ``enable_http2`` :
  281. Enable by default. Set to ``false`` to disable HTTP/2.
  282. ``max_redirects`` :
  283. 30 by default. Maximum redirect before it is an error.
  284. ``categories_as_tabs:``
  285. -----------------------
  286. A list of the categories that are displayed as tabs in the user interface.
  287. Categories not listed here can still be searched with the :ref:`search-syntax`.

  366. ``disabled`` : optional
  367. To disable by default the engine, but not deleting it. It will allow the user
  368. to manually activate it in the settings.
  369. ``language`` : optional
  370. If you want to use another language for a specific engine, you can define it
  371. by using the full ISO code of language and country, like ``fr_FR``, ``en_US``,
  372. ``de_DE``.
  373. ``tokens`` : optional
  374. A list of secret tokens to make this engine *private*, more details see
  375. :ref:`private engines`.
  376. ``weigth`` : default ``1``
  377. Weighting of the results of this engine.
  378. ``display_error_messages`` : default ``true``
  379. When an engine returns an error, the message is displayed on the user interface.
  380. ``network`` : optional
  381. Use the network configuration from another engine.
  382. In addition, there are two default networks:
  383. - ``ipv4`` set ``local_addresses`` to ``0.0.0.0`` (use only IPv4 local addresses)
  384. - ``ipv6`` set ``local_addresses`` to ``::`` (use only IPv6 local addresses)
  385. .. note::
  386. A few more options are possible, but they are pretty specific to some
  387. engines, and so won't be described here.
  388. Example: Multilingual Search
  389. ----------------------------
  390. SearXNG does not support true multilingual search. You have to use the language
  391. prefix in your search query when searching in a different language.
  392. But there is a workaround: By adding a new search engine with a different
  393. language, SearXNG will search in your default and other language.
  394. Example configuration in settings.yml for a German and English speaker:
  395. .. code-block:: yaml
  396. search:
  397. default_lang : "de"
  398. ...
  399. engines:
  400. - name : google english
  401. engine : google
  402. language : en
  403. ...
  404. When searching, the default google engine will return German results and
  405. "google english" will return English results.
  406. .. _settings use_default_settings:
  407. use_default_settings
  408. ====================
  409. .. sidebar:: ``use_default_settings: true``
  410. - :ref:`settings location`
  411. - :ref:`use_default_settings.yml`
  412. - :origin:`/etc/searxng/settings.yml <utils/templates/etc/searxng/settings.yml>`
  413. The user defined ``settings.yml`` is loaded from the :ref:`settings location`
  414. and can relied on the default configuration :origin:`searx/settings.yml` using:
  415. ``use_default_settings: true``
  416. ``server:``
  417. In the following example, the actual settings are the default settings defined
  418. in :origin:`searx/settings.yml` with the exception of the ``secret_key`` and
  419. the ``bind_address``:
  420. .. code-block:: yaml
  421. use_default_settings: true
  422. server:
  423. secret_key: "ultrasecretkey" # change this!
  424. bind_address: "0.0.0.0"
  425. ``engines:``
  426. With ``use_default_settings: true``, each settings can be override in a
  427. similar way, the ``engines`` section is merged according to the engine
  428. ``name``. In this example, SearXNG will load all the engine and the arch linux
  429. wiki engine has a :ref:`token <private engines>`:
  430. .. code-block:: yaml
  431. use_default_settings: true
  432. server:
  433. secret_key: "ultrasecretkey" # change this!
  434. engines:
  435. - name: arch linux wiki
  436. tokens: ['$ecretValue']
  437. ``engines:`` / ``remove:``
  438. It is possible to remove some engines from the default settings. The following
  439. example is similar to the above one, but SearXNG doesn't load the the google
  440. engine:
  441. .. code-block:: yaml
  442. use_default_settings:
  443. engines:
  444. remove:
  445. - google
  446. server:
  447. secret_key: "ultrasecretkey" # change this!
  448. engines:
  449. - name: arch linux wiki
  450. tokens: ['$ecretValue']
  451. ``engines:`` / ``keep_only:``
  452. As an alternative, it is possible to specify the engines to keep. In the
  453. following example, SearXNG has only two engines:
  454. .. code-block:: yaml
  455. use_default_settings:
  456. engines:
  457. keep_only:
  458. - google
  459. - duckduckgo
  460. server:
  461. secret_key: "ultrasecretkey" # change this!
  462. engines:
  463. - name: google
  464. tokens: ['$ecretValue']
  465. - name: duckduckgo
  466. tokens: ['$ecretValue']
