  151. Apache or Nginx.
  152. ``secret_key`` : ``$SEARXNG_SECRET``
  153. Used for cryptography purpose.
  154. .. _limiter:
  155. ``limiter`` :

  179. .. _static_use_hash:
  180. ``static_use_hash`` :
  181. Enables `cache busting`_ of static files.
  182. ``default_locale`` :
  183. SearXNG interface language. If blank, the locale is detected by using the
  184. browser language. If it doesn't work, or you are deploying a language
  185. specific instance of searx, a locale can be defined using an ISO language
  186. code, like ``fr``, ``en``, ``de``.
  187. ``query_in_title`` :
  188. When true, the result page's titles contains the query it decreases the

  202. .. _settings redis:
  203. ``redis:``
  204. ----------
  205. .. _Redis.from_url(url): https://redis-py.readthedocs.io/en/stable/connections.html#redis.client.Redis.from_url
  206. A redis DB can be connected by an URL, in :py:obj:`searx.shared.redisdb` you
  207. will find a description to test your redis connection in SerXNG. When using
  208. sockets, don't forget to check the access rights on the socket::
  209. ls -la /usr/local/searxng-redis/run/redis.sock
  210. srwxrwx--- 1 searxng-redis searxng-redis ... /usr/local/searxng-redis/run/redis.sock
  211. In this example read/write access is given to the *searxng-redis* group. To get
  212. access rights to redis instance (the socket), your SearXNG (or even your
  213. developer) account needs to be added to the *searxng-redis* group.
  214. ``url``
  215. URL to connect redis database, see `Redis.from_url(url)`_ & :ref:`redis db`::
  216. redis://[[username]:[password]]@localhost:6379/0
  217. rediss://[[username]:[password]]@localhost:6379/0
  218. unix://[[username]:[password]]@/path/to/socket.sock?db=0
  219. .. admonition:: Tip for developers
  220. To set up a local redis instance using sockets simply use::
  221. $ ./manage redis.build
  222. $ sudo -H ./manage redis.install
  223. $ sudo -H ./manage redis.addgrp "${USER}"
  224. # don't forget to logout & login to get member of group
  225. The YAML setting for such a redis instance is:
  226. .. code:: yaml
  227. redis:
  228. url: unix:///usr/local/searxng-redis/run/redis.sock?db=0
  229. .. _settings outgoing:

  236. max_request_timeout: 10.0 # the maximum timeout in seconds
  237. useragent_suffix: "" # informations like an email address to the administrator
  238. pool_connections: 100 # Maximum number of allowable connections, or null
  239. # for no limits. The default is 100.

  248. # uncomment below section only if you have more than one network interface
  249. # which can be the source of outgoing search requests
  250. # source_ips:
  251. # - 1.1.1.1
  252. # - 1.1.1.2
  253. # - fe80::/126
  254. ``request_timeout`` :
  255. Global timeout of the requests made to others engines in seconds. A bigger
  256. timeout will allow to wait for answers from slow engines, but in consequence
  257. will slow SearXNG reactivity (the result page may take the time specified in the
  258. timeout to load). Can be override by :ref:`settings engine`
  259. ``useragent_suffix`` :
  260. Suffix to the user-agent SearXNG uses to send requests to others engines. If an
  261. engine wish to block you, a contact info here may be useful to avoid that.
  262. ``keepalive_expiry`` :
  263. Number of seconds to keep a connection in the pool. By default 5.0 seconds.
  264. .. _httpx proxies: https://www.python-httpx.org/advanced/#http-proxying
  265. ``proxies`` :
  266. Define one or more proxies you wish to use, see `httpx proxies`_.
  267. If there are more than one proxy for one protocol (http, https),
  268. requests to the engines are distributed in a round-robin fashion.
  269. ``source_ips`` :
  270. If you use multiple network interfaces, define from which IP the requests must
  271. be made. Example:
  272. * ``0.0.0.0`` any local IPv4 address.
  273. * ``::`` any local IPv6 address.
  274. * ``192.168.0.1``
  275. * ``[ 192.168.0.1, 192.168.0.2 ]`` these two specific IP addresses
  276. * ``fe80::60a2:1691:e5a2:ee1f``
  277. * ``fe80::60a2:1691:e5a2:ee1f/126`` all IP addresses in this network.
  278. * ``[ 192.168.0.1, fe80::/126 ]``
  279. ``retries`` :
  280. Number of retry in case of an HTTP error. On each retry, SearXNG uses an
  281. different proxy and source ip.
  282. ``retry_on_http_error`` :
  283. Retry request on some HTTP status code.
  284. Example:
  285. * ``true`` : on HTTP status code between 400 and 599.
  286. * ``403`` : on HTTP status code 403.
  287. * ``[403, 429]``: on HTTP status code 403 and 429.
  288. ``enable_http2`` :
  289. Enable by default. Set to ``false`` to disable HTTP/2.
  290. ``max_redirects`` :
  291. 30 by default. Maximum redirect before it is an error.
  292. ``categories_as_tabs:``
  293. -----------------------
  294. A list of the categories that are displayed as tabs in the user interface.

  363. use multiple sites using only one engine, or updating the site URL without
  364. touching at the code.
  365. ``send_accept_language_header`` :
  366. Several engines that support languages (or regions) deal with the HTTP header
  367. ``Accept-Language`` to build a response that fits to the locale. When this
  368. option is activated, the language (locale) that is selected by the user is used
  369. to build and send a ``Accept-Language`` header in the request to the origin
  370. search engine.
  371. ``categories`` : optional
  372. Define in which categories this engine will be active. Most of the time, it is
  373. defined in the code of the engine, but in a few cases it is useful, like when
  374. describing multiple search engine using the same code.
  375. ``timeout`` : optional
  376. Timeout of the search with the current search engine. **Be careful, it will
  377. modify the global timeout of SearXNG.**
  378. ``api_key`` : optional
  379. In a few cases, using an API needs the use of a secret key. How to obtain them
  380. is described in the file.
  381. ``disabled`` : optional
  382. To disable by default the engine, but not deleting it. It will allow the user
  383. to manually activate it in the settings.
  384. ``language`` : optional
  385. If you want to use another language for a specific engine, you can define it
  386. by using the full ISO code of language and country, like ``fr_FR``, ``en_US``,
  387. ``de_DE``.
  388. ``tokens`` : optional
  389. A list of secret tokens to make this engine *private*, more details see
  390. :ref:`private engines`.
  391. ``weigth`` : default ``1``
  392. Weighting of the results of this engine.
  393. ``display_error_messages`` : default ``true``
  394. When an engine returns an error, the message is displayed on the user interface.
  395. ``network`` : optional
  396. Use the network configuration from another engine.
  397. In addition, there are two default networks:
  398. - ``ipv4`` set ``local_addresses`` to ``0.0.0.0`` (use only IPv4 local addresses)
  399. - ``ipv6`` set ``local_addresses`` to ``::`` (use only IPv6 local addresses)
  400. .. note::
  401. A few more options are possible, but they are pretty specific to some
  402. engines, and so won't be described here.
  403. Example: Multilingual Search
  404. ----------------------------
  405. SearXNG does not support true multilingual search. You have to use the language
  406. prefix in your search query when searching in a different language.
  407. But there is a workaround: By adding a new search engine with a different
  408. language, SearXNG will search in your default and other language.
  409. Example configuration in settings.yml for a German and English speaker:
  410. .. code-block:: yaml
  411. search:
  412. default_lang : "de"
  413. ...
  414. engines:
  415. - name : google english
  416. engine : google
  417. language : en
  418. ...
  419. When searching, the default google engine will return German results and
  420. "google english" will return English results.
  421. .. _settings use_default_settings:
  422. use_default_settings
  423. ====================
  424. .. sidebar:: ``use_default_settings: true``
  425. - :ref:`settings location`
  426. - :ref:`use_default_settings.yml`
  427. - :origin:`/etc/searxng/settings.yml <utils/templates/etc/searxng/settings.yml>`
  428. The user defined ``settings.yml`` is loaded from the :ref:`settings location`
  429. and can relied on the default configuration :origin:`searx/settings.yml` using:
  430. ``use_default_settings: true``
  431. ``server:``
  432. In the following example, the actual settings are the default settings defined
  433. in :origin:`searx/settings.yml` with the exception of the ``secret_key`` and
  434. the ``bind_address``:
  435. .. code-block:: yaml
  436. use_default_settings: true
  437. server:
  438. secret_key: "ultrasecretkey" # change this!
  439. bind_address: "0.0.0.0"
  440. ``engines:``
  441. With ``use_default_settings: true``, each settings can be override in a
  442. similar way, the ``engines`` section is merged according to the engine
  443. ``name``. In this example, SearXNG will load all the engine and the arch linux
  444. wiki engine has a :ref:`token <private engines>`:
  445. .. code-block:: yaml
  446. use_default_settings: true
  447. server:
  448. secret_key: "ultrasecretkey" # change this!
  449. engines:
  450. - name: arch linux wiki
  451. tokens: ['$ecretValue']
  452. ``engines:`` / ``remove:``
  453. It is possible to remove some engines from the default settings. The following
  454. example is similar to the above one, but SearXNG doesn't load the the google
  455. engine:
  456. .. code-block:: yaml
  457. use_default_settings:
  458. engines:
  459. remove:
  460. - google
  461. server:
  462. secret_key: "ultrasecretkey" # change this!
  463. engines:
  464. - name: arch linux wiki
  465. tokens: ['$ecretValue']
  466. ``engines:`` / ``keep_only:``
  467. As an alternative, it is possible to specify the engines to keep. In the
  468. following example, SearXNG has only two engines:
  469. .. code-block:: yaml
  470. use_default_settings:
  471. engines:
  472. keep_only:
  473. - google
  474. - duckduckgo
  475. server:
  476. secret_key: "ultrasecretkey" # change this!
  477. engines:
  478. - name: google
  479. tokens: ['$ecretValue']
  480. - name: duckduckgo
  481. tokens: ['$ecretValue']
