  191. -------------
  192. Communication with search engines.
  193. .. code:: yaml

  195. request_timeout: 2.0 # default timeout in seconds, can be override by engine
  196. max_request_timeout: 10.0 # the maximum timeout in seconds
  197. useragent_suffix: "" # informations like an email address to the administrator
  198. pool_connections: 100 # Maximum number of allowable connections, or null
  199. # for no limits. The default is 100.
  200. pool_maxsize: 10 # Number of allowable keep-alive connections, or null

  209. # which can be the source of outgoing search requests
  210. # source_ips:
  211. # - 1.1.1.1
  212. # - 1.1.1.2
  213. # - fe80::/126
  214. ``request_timeout`` :
  215. Global timeout of the requests made to others engines in seconds. A bigger
  216. timeout will allow to wait for answers from slow engines, but in consequence
  217. will slow SearXNG reactivity (the result page may take the time specified in the
  218. timeout to load). Can be override by :ref:`settings engine`
  219. ``useragent_suffix`` :
  220. Suffix to the user-agent SearXNG uses to send requests to others engines. If an
  221. engine wish to block you, a contact info here may be useful to avoid that.
  222. ``keepalive_expiry``:
  223. Number of seconds to keep a connection in the pool. By default 5.0 seconds.
  224. .. _httpx proxies: https://www.python-httpx.org/advanced/#http-proxying
  225. ``proxies`` :
  226. Define one or more proxies you wish to use, see `httpx proxies`_.
  227. If there are more than one proxy for one protocol (http, https),
  228. requests to the engines are distributed in a round-robin fashion.
  229. ``source_ips`` :
  230. If you use multiple network interfaces, define from which IP the requests must
  231. be made. Example:
  232. * ``0.0.0.0`` any local IPv4 address.
  233. * ``::`` any local IPv6 address.
  234. * ``192.168.0.1``
  235. * ``[ 192.168.0.1, 192.168.0.2 ]`` these two specific IP addresses
  236. * ``fe80::60a2:1691:e5a2:ee1f``
  237. * ``fe80::60a2:1691:e5a2:ee1f/126`` all IP addresses in this network.
  238. * ``[ 192.168.0.1, fe80::/126 ]``
  239. ``retries`` :
  240. Number of retry in case of an HTTP error. On each retry, SearXNG uses an
  241. different proxy and source ip.
  242. ``retry_on_http_error`` :
  243. Retry request on some HTTP status code.
  244. Example:
  245. * ``true`` : on HTTP status code between 400 and 599.
  246. * ``403`` : on HTTP status code 403.
  247. * ``[403, 429]``: on HTTP status code 403 and 429.
  248. ``enable_http2`` :
  249. Enable by default. Set to ``false`` to disable HTTP/2.
  250. ``max_redirects`` :
  251. 30 by default. Maximum redirect before it is an error.
  252. ``categories_as_tabs:``
  253. -----------------------
  254. A list of the categories that are displayed as tabs in the user interface.
  255. Categories not listed here can still be searched with the :ref:`search-syntax`.

  312. ``name`` :
  313. Name that will be used across SearXNG to define this engine. In settings, on
  314. the result page...
  315. ``engine`` :
  316. Name of the python file used to handle requests and responses to and from this
  317. search engine.
  318. ``shortcut`` :
  319. Code used to execute bang requests (in this case using ``!bi``)
  320. ``base_url`` : optional
  321. Part of the URL that should be stable across every request. Can be useful to
  322. use multiple sites using only one engine, or updating the site URL without
  323. touching at the code.
  324. ``categories`` : optional
  325. Define in which categories this engine will be active. Most of the time, it is
  326. defined in the code of the engine, but in a few cases it is useful, like when
  327. describing multiple search engine using the same code.
  328. ``timeout`` : optional
  329. Timeout of the search with the current search engine. **Be careful, it will
  330. modify the global timeout of SearXNG.**
  331. ``api_key`` : optional
  332. In a few cases, using an API needs the use of a secret key. How to obtain them
  333. is described in the file.
  334. ``disabled`` : optional
  335. To disable by default the engine, but not deleting it. It will allow the user
  336. to manually activate it in the settings.
  337. ``language`` : optional
  338. If you want to use another language for a specific engine, you can define it
  339. by using the full ISO code of language and country, like ``fr_FR``, ``en_US``,
  340. ``de_DE``.
  341. ``tokens`` : optional
  342. A list of secret tokens to make this engine *private*, more details see
  343. :ref:`private engines`.
  344. ``weigth`` : default ``1``
  345. Weighting of the results of this engine.
  346. ``display_error_messages`` : default ``true``
  347. When an engine returns an error, the message is displayed on the user interface.
  348. ``network``: optional
  349. Use the network configuration from another engine.
  350. In addition, there are two default networks:
  351. - ``ipv4`` set ``local_addresses`` to ``0.0.0.0`` (use only IPv4 local addresses)
  352. - ``ipv6`` set ``local_addresses`` to ``::`` (use only IPv6 local addresses)
  353. .. note::
  354. A few more options are possible, but they are pretty specific to some
  355. engines, and so won't be described here.
  356. Example: Multilingual Search
  357. ----------------------------
  358. SearXNG does not support true multilingual search. You have to use the language
  359. prefix in your search query when searching in a different language.
  360. But there is a workaround: By adding a new search engine with a different
  361. language, SearXNG will search in your default and other language.
  362. Example configuration in settings.yml for a German and English speaker:
  363. .. code-block:: yaml
  364. search:
  365. default_lang : "de"
  366. ...
  367. engines:
  368. - name : google english
  369. engine : google
  370. language : en
  371. ...
  372. When searching, the default google engine will return German results and
  373. "google english" will return English results.

  380. - :origin:`/etc/searxng/settings.yml <utils/templates/etc/searxng/settings.yml>`
  381. The user defined ``settings.yml`` is loaded from the :ref:`settings location`
  382. and can relied on the default configuration :origin:`searx/settings.yml` using:
  383. ``use_default_settings: true``
  384. ``server:``
  385. In the following example, the actual settings are the default settings defined
  386. in :origin:`searx/settings.yml` with the exception of the ``secret_key`` and
  387. the ``bind_address``:
  388. .. code-block:: yaml
  389. use_default_settings: true
  390. server:
  391. secret_key: "ultrasecretkey" # change this!
  392. bind_address: "0.0.0.0"
  393. ``engines:``
  394. With ``use_default_settings: true``, each settings can be override in a
  395. similar way, the ``engines`` section is merged according to the engine
  396. ``name``. In this example, SearXNG will load all the engine and the arch linux
  397. wiki engine has a :ref:`token <private engines>`:
  398. .. code-block:: yaml
  399. use_default_settings: true
  400. server:
  401. secret_key: "ultrasecretkey" # change this!
  402. engines:
  403. - name: arch linux wiki
  404. tokens: ['$ecretValue']
  405. ``engines:`` / ``remove:``
  406. It is possible to remove some engines from the default settings. The following
  407. example is similar to the above one, but SearXNG doesn't load the the google
  408. engine:
  409. .. code-block:: yaml
  410. use_default_settings:
  411. engines:
  412. remove:
  413. - google
  414. server:
  415. secret_key: "ultrasecretkey" # change this!
  416. engines:
  417. - name: arch linux wiki
  418. tokens: ['$ecretValue']
  419. ``engines:`` / ``keep_only:``
  420. As an alternative, it is possible to specify the engines to keep. In the
  421. following example, SearXNG has only two engines:
  422. .. code-block:: yaml
  423. use_default_settings:
  424. engines:
  425. keep_only:
  426. - google
  427. - duckduckgo
  428. server:
  429. secret_key: "ultrasecretkey" # change this!
  430. engines:
  431. - name: google
  432. tokens: ['$ecretValue']
  433. - name: duckduckgo
  434. tokens: ['$ecretValue']
