  74. .. sidebar:: buildenv
  75. Changing a value tagged by :ref:`buildenv <make buildenv>`, needs to
  76. rebuild instance's environment :ref:`utils/brand.env <make buildenv>`.
  77. ``base_url`` : :ref:`buildenv SEARX_URL <make buildenv>`
  78. The base URL where searx is deployed. Used to create correct inbound links.
  79. If you change the value, don't forget to rebuild instance's environment
  80. (:ref:`utils/brand.env <make buildenv>`)
  81. ``port`` & ``bind_address``: :ref:`buildenv SEARX_PORT & SEARX_BIND_ADDRESS <make buildenv>`
  82. Port number and *bind address* of the searx web application if you run it
  83. directly using ``python searx/webapp.py``. Doesn't apply to searx running on
  84. Apache or Nginx.
  85. ``secret_key`` : ``$SEARX_SECRET``
  86. Used for cryptography purpose.
  87. ``image_proxy`` :
  88. Allow your instance of searx of being able to proxy images. Uses memory space.
  89. ``default_locale`` :
  90. Searx interface language. If blank, the locale is detected by using the
  91. browser language. If it doesn't work, or you are deploying a language
  92. specific instance of searx, a locale can be defined using an ISO language
  93. code, like ``fr``, ``en``, ``de``.
  94. ``default_theme`` :
  95. Name of the theme you want to use by default on your searx instance.
  96. .. _HTTP headers: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTTP/Headers
  97. ``default_http_headers``:
  98. Set additional HTTP headers, see `#755 <https://github.com/searx/searx/issues/715>`__
  99. ``outgoing:``
  100. -------------
  101. Communication with search engines.
  102. .. code:: yaml
  103. outgoing:
  104. request_timeout: 2.0 # default timeout in seconds, can be override by engine
  105. max_request_timeout: 10.0 # the maximum timeout in seconds
  106. useragent_suffix: "" # informations like an email address to the administrator
  107. pool_connections: 100 # Maximum number of allowable connections, or null
  108. # for no limits. The default is 100.
  109. pool_maxsize: 10 # Number of allowable keep-alive connections, or null
  110. # to always allow. The default is 10.
  111. enable_http2: true # See https://www.python-httpx.org/http2/
  112. # uncomment below section if you want to use a proxy
  113. # proxies:
  114. # all://:
  115. # - http://proxy1:8080
  116. # - http://proxy2:8080
  117. # uncomment below section only if you have more than one network interface
  118. # which can be the source of outgoing search requests
  119. # source_ips:
  120. # - 1.1.1.1
  121. # - 1.1.1.2
  122. # - fe80::/126
  123. ``request_timeout`` :
  124. Global timeout of the requests made to others engines in seconds. A bigger
  125. timeout will allow to wait for answers from slow engines, but in consequence
  126. will slow searx reactivity (the result page may take the time specified in the
  127. timeout to load). Can be override by :ref:`settings engine`
  128. ``useragent_suffix`` :
  129. Suffix to the user-agent searx uses to send requests to others engines. If an
  130. engine wish to block you, a contact info here may be useful to avoid that.
  131. ``keepalive_expiry``:
  132. Number of seconds to keep a connection in the pool. By default 5.0 seconds.
  133. .. _httpx proxies: https://www.python-httpx.org/advanced/#http-proxying
  134. ``proxies`` :
  135. Define one or more proxies you wish to use, see `httpx proxies`_.
  136. If there are more than one proxy for one protocol (http, https),
  137. requests to the engines are distributed in a round-robin fashion.
  138. ``source_ips`` :
  139. If you use multiple network interfaces, define from which IP the requests must
  140. be made. Example:
  141. * ``0.0.0.0`` any local IPv4 address.
  142. * ``::`` any local IPv6 address.
  143. * ``192.168.0.1``
  144. * ``[ 192.168.0.1, 192.168.0.2 ]`` these two specific IP addresses
  145. * ``fe80::60a2:1691:e5a2:ee1f``
  146. * ``fe80::60a2:1691:e5a2:ee1f/126`` all IP addresses in this network.
  147. * ``[ 192.168.0.1, fe80::/126 ]``
  148. ``retries`` :
  149. Number of retry in case of an HTTP error. On each retry, searx uses an
  150. different proxy and source ip.
  151. ``retry_on_http_error`` :
  152. Retry request on some HTTP status code.
  153. Example:
  154. * ``true`` : on HTTP status code between 400 and 599.
  155. * ``403`` : on HTTP status code 403.
  156. * ``[403, 429]``: on HTTP status code 403 and 429.
  157. ``enable_http2`` :
  158. Enable by default. Set to ``false`` to disable HTTP/2.
  159. ``max_redirects`` :
  160. 30 by default. Maximum redirect before it is an error.
  161. ``locales:``
  162. ------------
  163. .. code:: yaml
  164. locales:
  165. en: English
  166. de: Deutsch
  167. he: Hebrew
  168. hu: Magyar

  171. it: Italiano
  172. nl: Nederlands
  173. ja: 日本語 (Japanese)
  174. tr: Türkçe
  175. ru: Russian
  176. ro: Romanian
  177. ``locales`` :
  178. Locales codes and their names. Available translations of searx interface.

  223. ``name`` :
  224. Name that will be used across searx to define this engine. In settings, on
  225. the result page...
  226. ``engine`` :
  227. Name of the python file used to handle requests and responses to and from this
  228. search engine.
  229. ``shortcut`` :
  230. Code used to execute bang requests (in this case using ``!bi`` or ``?bi``)
  231. ``base_url`` : optional
  232. Part of the URL that should be stable across every request. Can be useful to
  233. use multiple sites using only one engine, or updating the site URL without
  234. touching at the code.
  235. ``categories`` : optional
  236. Define in which categories this engine will be active. Most of the time, it is
  237. defined in the code of the engine, but in a few cases it is useful, like when
  238. describing multiple search engine using the same code.
  239. ``timeout`` : optional
  240. Timeout of the search with the current search engine. **Be careful, it will
  241. modify the global timeout of searx.**
  242. ``api_key`` : optional
  243. In a few cases, using an API needs the use of a secret key. How to obtain them
  244. is described in the file.
  245. ``disabled`` : optional
  246. To disable by default the engine, but not deleting it. It will allow the user
  247. to manually activate it in the settings.
  248. ``language`` : optional
  249. If you want to use another language for a specific engine, you can define it
  250. by using the full ISO code of language and country, like ``fr_FR``, ``en_US``,
  251. ``de_DE``.
  252. ``tokens`` : optional
  253. A list of secret tokens to make this engine *private*, more details see
  254. :ref:`private engines`.
  255. ``weigth`` : default ``1``
  256. Weighting of the results of this engine.
  257. ``display_error_messages`` : default ``true``
  258. When an engine returns an error, the message is displayed on the user interface.
  259. ``network``: optional
  260. Use the network configuration from another engine.
  261. In addition, there are two default networks:
  262. * ``ipv4`` set ``local_addresses`` to ``0.0.0.0`` (use only IPv4 local addresses)
  263. * ``ipv6`` set ``local_addresses`` to ``::`` (use only IPv6 local addresses)
  264. .. note::
  265. A few more options are possible, but they are pretty specific to some
  266. engines, and so won't be described here.
  267. .. _settings use_default_settings:
  268. use_default_settings
  269. ====================
  270. .. sidebar:: ``use_default_settings: true``
  271. - :ref:`settings location`
  272. - :ref:`use_default_settings.yml`
  273. - :origin:`/etc/searx/settings.yml <utils/templates/etc/searx/use_default_settings.yml>`
  274. The user defined ``settings.yml`` is loaded from the :ref:`settings location`
  275. and can relied on the default configuration :origin:`searx/settings.yml` using:
  276. ``use_default_settings: true``
  277. ``server:``
  278. In the following example, the actual settings are the default settings defined
  279. in :origin:`searx/settings.yml` with the exception of the ``secret_key`` and
  280. the ``bind_address``:
  281. .. code-block:: yaml
  282. use_default_settings: true
  283. server:
  284. secret_key: "ultrasecretkey" # change this!
  285. bind_address: "0.0.0.0"
  286. ``engines:``
  287. With ``use_default_settings: true``, each settings can be override in a
  288. similar way, the ``engines`` section is merged according to the engine
  289. ``name``. In this example, searx will load all the engine and the arch linux
  290. wiki engine has a :ref:`token <private engines>`:
  291. .. code-block:: yaml
  292. use_default_settings: true
  293. server:
  294. secret_key: "ultrasecretkey" # change this!
  295. engines:
  296. - name: arch linux wiki
  297. tokens: ['$ecretValue']
  298. ``engines:`` / ``remove:``
  299. It is possible to remove some engines from the default settings. The following
  300. example is similar to the above one, but searx doesn't load the the google
  301. engine:
  302. .. code-block:: yaml
  303. use_default_settings:
  304. engines:
  305. remove:
  306. - google
  307. server:
  308. secret_key: "ultrasecretkey" # change this!
  309. engines:
  310. - name: arch linux wiki
  311. tokens: ['$ecretValue']
  312. ``engines:`` / ``keep_only:``
  313. As an alternative, it is possible to specify the engines to keep. In the
  314. following example, searx has only two engines:
  315. .. code-block:: yaml
  316. use_default_settings:
  317. engines:
  318. keep_only:
  319. - google
  320. - duckduckgo
  321. server:
  322. secret_key: "ultrasecretkey" # change this!
  323. engines:
  324. - name: google
  325. tokens: ['$ecretValue']
  326. - name: duckduckgo
  327. tokens: ['$ecretValue']
