  211. ----------
  212. .. _Redis.from_url(url): https://redis-py.readthedocs.io/en/stable/connections.html#redis.client.Redis.from_url
  213. A redis DB can be connected by an URL, in :py:obj:`searx.redisdb` you
  214. will find a description to test your redis connection in SerXNG. When using
  215. sockets, don't forget to check the access rights on the socket::
  216. ls -la /usr/local/searxng-redis/run/redis.sock
  217. srwxrwx--- 1 searxng-redis searxng-redis ... /usr/local/searxng-redis/run/redis.sock
  218. In this example read/write access is given to the *searxng-redis* group. To get
  219. access rights to redis instance (the socket), your SearXNG (or even your
  220. developer) account needs to be added to the *searxng-redis* group.
  221. ``url``
  222. URL to connect redis database, see `Redis.from_url(url)`_ & :ref:`redis db`::
  223. redis://[[username]:[password]]@localhost:6379/0
  224. rediss://[[username]:[password]]@localhost:6379/0
  225. unix://[[username]:[password]]@/path/to/socket.sock?db=0
  226. .. admonition:: Tip for developers
  227. To set up a local redis instance, first set the socket path of the Redis DB
  228. in your YAML setting:
  229. .. code:: yaml
  230. redis:
  231. url: unix:///usr/local/searxng-redis/run/redis.sock?db=0
  232. Then use the following commands to install the redis instance ::
  233. $ ./manage redis.build
  234. $ sudo -H ./manage redis.install
  235. $ sudo -H ./manage redis.addgrp "${USER}"
  236. # don't forget to logout & login to get member of group

  269. #
  270. # extra_proxy_timeout: 10.0
  271. #
  272. ``request_timeout`` :
  273. Global timeout of the requests made to others engines in seconds. A bigger
  274. timeout will allow to wait for answers from slow engines, but in consequence
  275. will slow SearXNG reactivity (the result page may take the time specified in the
  276. timeout to load). Can be override by :ref:`settings engine`
  277. ``useragent_suffix`` :
  278. Suffix to the user-agent SearXNG uses to send requests to others engines. If an
  279. engine wish to block you, a contact info here may be useful to avoid that.
  280. ``keepalive_expiry`` :
  281. Number of seconds to keep a connection in the pool. By default 5.0 seconds.
  282. .. _httpx proxies: https://www.python-httpx.org/advanced/#http-proxying
  283. ``proxies`` :
  284. Define one or more proxies you wish to use, see `httpx proxies`_.
  285. If there are more than one proxy for one protocol (http, https),
  286. requests to the engines are distributed in a round-robin fashion.
  287. ``source_ips`` :
  288. If you use multiple network interfaces, define from which IP the requests must
  289. be made. Example:
  290. * ``0.0.0.0`` any local IPv4 address.
  291. * ``::`` any local IPv6 address.
  292. * ``192.168.0.1``
  293. * ``[ 192.168.0.1, 192.168.0.2 ]`` these two specific IP addresses
  294. * ``fe80::60a2:1691:e5a2:ee1f``
  295. * ``fe80::60a2:1691:e5a2:ee1f/126`` all IP addresses in this network.
  296. * ``[ 192.168.0.1, fe80::/126 ]``
  297. ``retries`` :
  298. Number of retry in case of an HTTP error. On each retry, SearXNG uses an
  299. different proxy and source ip.
  300. ``retry_on_http_error`` :
  301. Retry request on some HTTP status code.
  302. Example:
  303. * ``true`` : on HTTP status code between 400 and 599.
  304. * ``403`` : on HTTP status code 403.
  305. * ``[403, 429]``: on HTTP status code 403 and 429.
  306. ``enable_http2`` :
  307. Enable by default. Set to ``false`` to disable HTTP/2.
  308. .. _httpx verification defaults: https://www.python-httpx.org/advanced/#changing-the-verification-defaults
  309. .. _httpx ssl configuration: https://www.python-httpx.org/compatibility/#ssl-configuration
  310. ``verify``: : ``$SSL_CERT_FILE``, ``$SSL_CERT_DIR``
  311. Allow to specify a path to certificate.
  312. see `httpx verification defaults`_.
  313. In addition to ``verify``, SearXNG supports the ``$SSL_CERT_FILE`` (for a file) and
  314. ``$SSL_CERT_DIR`` (for a directory) OpenSSL variables.
  315. see `httpx ssl configuration`_.
  316. ``max_redirects`` :
  317. 30 by default. Maximum redirect before it is an error.
  318. ``categories_as_tabs:``

  379. ``name`` :
  380. Name that will be used across SearXNG to define this engine. In settings, on
  381. the result page...
  382. ``engine`` :
  383. Name of the python file used to handle requests and responses to and from this
  384. search engine.
  385. ``shortcut`` :
  386. Code used to execute bang requests (in this case using ``!bi``)
  387. ``base_url`` : optional
  388. Part of the URL that should be stable across every request. Can be useful to
  389. use multiple sites using only one engine, or updating the site URL without
  390. touching at the code.
  391. ``send_accept_language_header`` :
  392. Several engines that support languages (or regions) deal with the HTTP header
  393. ``Accept-Language`` to build a response that fits to the locale. When this
  394. option is activated, the language (locale) that is selected by the user is used
  395. to build and send a ``Accept-Language`` header in the request to the origin
  396. search engine.
  397. ``categories`` : optional
  398. Define in which categories this engine will be active. Most of the time, it is
  399. defined in the code of the engine, but in a few cases it is useful, like when
  400. describing multiple search engine using the same code.
  401. ``timeout`` : optional
  402. Timeout of the search with the current search engine. **Be careful, it will
  403. modify the global timeout of SearXNG.**
  404. ``api_key`` : optional
  405. In a few cases, using an API needs the use of a secret key. How to obtain them
  406. is described in the file.
  407. ``disabled`` : optional
  408. To disable by default the engine, but not deleting it. It will allow the user
  409. to manually activate it in the settings.
  410. ``language`` : optional
  411. If you want to use another language for a specific engine, you can define it
  412. by using the full ISO code of language and country, like ``fr_FR``, ``en_US``,
  413. ``de_DE``.
  414. ``tokens`` : optional
  415. A list of secret tokens to make this engine *private*, more details see
  416. :ref:`private engines`.
  417. ``weigth`` : default ``1``
  418. Weighting of the results of this engine.
  419. ``display_error_messages`` : default ``true``
  420. When an engine returns an error, the message is displayed on the user interface.
  421. ``network`` : optional
  422. Use the network configuration from another engine.
  423. In addition, there are two default networks:
  424. - ``ipv4`` set ``local_addresses`` to ``0.0.0.0`` (use only IPv4 local addresses)
  425. - ``ipv6`` set ``local_addresses`` to ``::`` (use only IPv6 local addresses)
  426. .. note::
  427. A few more options are possible, but they are pretty specific to some
  428. engines, and so won't be described here.
  429. Example: Multilingual Search
  430. ----------------------------
  431. SearXNG does not support true multilingual search. You have to use the language
  432. prefix in your search query when searching in a different language.
  433. But there is a workaround: By adding a new search engine with a different
  434. language, SearXNG will search in your default and other language.
  435. Example configuration in settings.yml for a German and English speaker:
  436. .. code-block:: yaml
  437. search:
  438. default_lang : "de"
  439. ...
  440. engines:
  441. - name : google english
  442. engine : google
  443. language : en
  444. ...
  445. When searching, the default google engine will return German results and
  446. "google english" will return English results.
  447. .. _settings use_default_settings:
  448. use_default_settings
  449. ====================
  450. .. sidebar:: ``use_default_settings: true``
  451. - :ref:`settings location`
  452. - :ref:`use_default_settings.yml`
  453. - :origin:`/etc/searxng/settings.yml <utils/templates/etc/searxng/settings.yml>`
  454. The user defined ``settings.yml`` is loaded from the :ref:`settings location`
  455. and can relied on the default configuration :origin:`searx/settings.yml` using:
  456. ``use_default_settings: true``
  457. ``server:``
  458. In the following example, the actual settings are the default settings defined
  459. in :origin:`searx/settings.yml` with the exception of the ``secret_key`` and
  460. the ``bind_address``:
  461. .. code-block:: yaml
  462. use_default_settings: true
  463. server:
  464. secret_key: "ultrasecretkey" # change this!
  465. bind_address: "0.0.0.0"
  466. ``engines:``
  467. With ``use_default_settings: true``, each settings can be override in a
  468. similar way, the ``engines`` section is merged according to the engine
  469. ``name``. In this example, SearXNG will load all the engine and the arch linux
  470. wiki engine has a :ref:`token <private engines>`:
  471. .. code-block:: yaml
  472. use_default_settings: true
  473. server:
  474. secret_key: "ultrasecretkey" # change this!
  475. engines:
  476. - name: arch linux wiki
  477. tokens: ['$ecretValue']
  478. ``engines:`` / ``remove:``
  479. It is possible to remove some engines from the default settings. The following
  480. example is similar to the above one, but SearXNG doesn't load the the google
  481. engine:
  482. .. code-block:: yaml
  483. use_default_settings:
  484. engines:
  485. remove:
  486. - google
  487. server:
  488. secret_key: "ultrasecretkey" # change this!
  489. engines:
  490. - name: arch linux wiki
  491. tokens: ['$ecretValue']
  492. ``engines:`` / ``keep_only:``
  493. As an alternative, it is possible to specify the engines to keep. In the
  494. following example, SearXNG has only two engines:
  495. .. code-block:: yaml
  496. use_default_settings:
  497. engines:
  498. keep_only:
  499. - google
  500. - duckduckgo
  501. server:
  502. secret_key: "ultrasecretkey" # change this!
  503. engines:
  504. - name: google
  505. tokens: ['$ecretValue']
  506. - name: duckduckgo
  507. tokens: ['$ecretValue']
